If you’re starting an interior decoration project, it’s extremely important to keep in mind every single aspect of the room. Whether it’s furniture, fabrics, flooring, or wall decor, every element must be considered and planned out. Thinking creatively, each of these important elements combines together to create the character of the room, making the space appealing and interesting.
In recent years, many homeowners have caught on to the trend of giving their windows a layered curtain look. The time of using curtains simply to maintain the privacy of those inside the home are long gone, and homeowners are beginning to make their windows a focal point in their rooms through the creative combination of curtain fabric types, fabric colors, and fabric weights.
In order to give your windows a layered look, you have to go beyond the regular single curtain rods that are normally used to hang curtains. Instead, you need to install triple curtain rods, which are specially created for the purpose of hanging three sets of curtains up over a single window. With this piece of hardware, you can quickly and easily hang a sheer curtain, a heavier curtain, and a valance, or any combination of three curtain types you might want.
The hardware to do this isn’t much different from what you probably already have hung above your window. The difference is that this piece of hardware comes with three metal arms, instead of the one or two that your existing hardware probably has. You don’t need to invest in any special brackets to hang these rods, as they should be able to hang from the existing brackets.
Adjusters are included in the rods, which allow you to adjust the rod to fit any size window. You can also order customized triple rods designed to fit a specific size window, but these are more expensive than the adjustable rods. Installing the hardware is easy, since you are just replacing your existing rods. Remove the existing curtains and rods and put up the new rods. Then you can move on to the important part of why you did this in the first place—create your decorative window treatment style in the room.
Perhaps the most popular way to layer curtains is by hanging sheers, a valance, and thicker curtains that can be tied up to the sides. Sheers are made from a very thin and delicate material, and allow more natural sunlight to come into the room. Sheers come in a variety of attractive colors, sometimes have embroidery on them, and are often pulled over the windows to add to the room decor. The sheers do not typically add much privacy to the room, so the thick fabric curtain is combined with the sheers. When the inhabitant wants privacy, they can simply open the curtains and enjoy the privacy. Often, these curtains will be hung on traverse rods, which allows the use of a draw cord to open and close the curtains easily.
The topmost layer of the window treatment, the valance, is about a foot in length and is just added to enhance the layering and overall look of the window treatments.
