How to Choose and Install Traverse Rods?

Traverse Rods
The most important decision that people usually face while choosing a traverse rod is purchasing the one made from quality steel or wood, which can seamlessly support the weight of the draperies or the curtains. The best about these rods is that they are available in different styles and you can choose between a single or double rod, with or without valance, sheers, wall or ceiling mount and either standard or decorative rods. However, the process of installation remains the same for almost all of these. However, in case of double rods, you need to do is repeat few steps twice especially when you need to assemble the rods.

People usually prefer installing traverse rods for their windows because of the reason that they have a pulley system which allows you to open and close the draperies from the side by simply pulling a string. However, in order to ensure that your hardware works smoothly and that your curtains or draperies look good on them, take time to measure your rods correctly before their installation. If they are hung in the right manner and supported properly, a heavy duty rod can easily hold upto one to two pounds a foot. Below mentioned are few guidelines that need to be followed while purchasing these special rods for your window treatment.

If you would be using draperies instead of valance, it would be wise to purchase a decorative wooden rod along with accompanying wooden brackets to hold either a single or double rod. These rods are available in different colors, which to your surprise also include mahogany and antique gold color range to seamlessly match the decor of your house. You can either choose from four, six or eight foot lengths. In fact nowadays adjustable curtain rods are available that is beneficial for windows with indefinite length. However, some people even cut the rod for getting a length that measures between two sizes. If you have purchased decorative wooden rods, you will find that they are cordless and get installed in few minutes.

However, if you have valances or are willing to get a ceiling mount done, it is recommended to purchase steel rods. The best part about these rods is that you can either buy them as a single unit for draperies or as draperies plus sheers. However, if you would be using a wooden cornice, you can either buy a single unit or single plus sheers. Before installing, it is suggested to initially measure the window and then add the desired number of inches beyond the window. Measuring a few inches is always beneficial as it will then prevent the light from entering through the side. This can be preferable primarily for the bedrooms especially for people that sleep during the day.

Now by using an electric drill, attach the bracket to the wall studs. If you have purchased wooden rods, you can now hang your curtain or else you can continue with the following steps. Now slide the threader onto the end of the rod that fits only in a single end. Finally, assemble the rods and lock them in a place by inserting prong on the wall brackets and into the holes of the rod. If you are looking for affordable traverse rod option, you can consider about buying them from online stores.

Talking about the layout of the drapes, when you use traverse rods you will find that these rods would be such that an s-shaped pin attaches to the pleats of the drapes with a hook end that can be seen through the small hole in the rod hanger. As mentioned earlier, these angers are not very expensive and can be easily purchased and installed in few minutes duration. Therefore, for better understanding, this article discusses methods that can be adopted to replace the old and worn out hangers with new ones.

It is then required to lift the hooks while continuing to remove the drapes from the corner of the bracket.

• Once the process of curtain removal is done, you now have to detach the hooks from the hanger and then set the drape in one side to expose the hardware, ring hangers and the rod. Further, in order to avoid any loss of the pins, which might get stuck in the seams of the pleats simply fold the drapes and keep them aside. • Now unlock the rod by pressing down the tab on the pulley located on either side of the rod. This step allows you to easily slide sling hangers off the drapery rod. Now through the hole, lift it out carefully.

•    Now through the open end remove the broken plastic hangers and replace them with new rods. However, just make sure that the hangers are placed in forward facing direction.
Same procedure can also be followed for extra long traverse rods. Just be careful while reattaching the drapes as s-shaped hooks have pointed and sharp ends.

Purchase Cheap Valance Rod from Drapery Hardware

With this decorative piece, you can easily convert the large windows of your living rooms into an attraction point in a hassle free manner. They look so good in your windows that they grab attention of the people towards the windows. Moreover, they can enhance some of the boring curtains and drapes of your house. However, since they are available in different styles and colors, many people might get confused over choosing the one that impeccably pairs with the curtain or drape and might even end up purchasing cheap valance rods that do not even look good. This article discusses some guidelines that assist you with easy installation of valance curtain rods.

By adding a decorative valance curtain rods to your windows, you can introduce more color and style to your room in an impeccable manner. However, before hanging a valance curtain rod, it is important to ensure that there is enough space on each side and also above any existing coverings such as those of sheers, blinds or various other drapery panels on the window. However, it is also important that you place these valance rods on the outer part of any curtain hardware as valances are usually the top decoration on the window. Below mentioned are few installation tips.

•    Initially, it is required to measure the width of the hardware included with the rod. Remember that the hardware needs to protrude over all the existing hardware on the window by at least a measurement of two inches. This process allows hanging the valance easily and ensuring that it does not hinder other blinds or curtains from functioning properly.

•    Now it is required to measure two inches past the outermost existing curtain rod on the window. It is important to take this measurement on both sides and then mark the same with a pencil in order to indicate a 2 inch mark. This marked distance will ensure that other covering of the windows work properly. Now it is required to install the rod at the same height as that of the existing curtain rods.

•    To mark the points of the bracket, you need to place the level across the window aligned with the two marks that you made earlier using a pencil. Now it is required to line up the marks and make new ones to ensure that the brackets are installed in the same level.

•    It is now required to pre-drill the bracket holes using a cordless drill. This process guarantees that the screws fit in the dry wall easily and also in the right position.

•    Now hold the bracket up-to one of the pre-drilled holes and then insert a screw into the hole. By using the cordless screw driver, screw the bracket to the wall and then also repeat this process on other side of the window. Now use the level for just one last time in order to ensure that you have installed the brackets accurately and completely straight.

•    Once you are done with installation of the bracket, slide the decorative valance to the rod and attach the rod to the bracket. This process entirely depends upon the type and valance rod sizes purchased. Some of the rods will push onto the brackets whereas others might require the top of the rod hook onto the latch and then on the top of the bracket to snap them at right place.
